NEUROMUSCULAR BASED HORSE DENTISTRY
Too little attention is still paid to the horse's teeth in the overall understanding. They are often only considered when the feeding behavior changes and hay wraps are found, for example.
In holistic medicine, it is said that everything begins in the mouth, from nutrition to mechanical “processing” by the digestive system, which is known to begin in the mouth.
But even this approach is a little too short-sighted.
Too little attention is still paid from all directions to the huge influence of the teeth on the whole body.
The teeth and especially the temporomandibular joint play a leading role when it comes to the neurological functionality of the body.
Anatomically correctly balanced teeth generate neurological impulses that are transmitted to the whole body, from head to hoof.
Important systems such as nerve pathways, meridians, the primo-vascular system, blood vessels, muscles and fascia meet at or pass through the temporomandibular joint. If the teeth are worked too hard or incorrectly (which is very often the case), the signal transmission does not work and causes disturbances in the body.
Imbalances have a direct effect on the function of the organs, the sensory systems, the musculoskeletal system (muscles, tendons, fascia) and on posture/perception.
This can manifest itself as follows, for example:
* Excessive physical asymmetry
* Differential wear of the hooves
* Joint/tendon and ligament problems
* Lameness
* Atrophied or hypertrophied muscles
* General muscle weakness
* Neck problems, flexion and extension difficult
* Organic dysfunctions (colic, liver and kidney problems)
* Severe watery eyes
* Weight loss
* Body therapies that do not work or are persistent
* Etc.
The list could go on and on...
This is why anatomically correct but precise (!) treatment of the teeth, tailored to the individual horse, is important. As with the hooves. Every horse has its own anatomical characteristics, anomalies and peculiarities. Combining the basic anatomical functionality with the individuality of the individual requires precise and delicate work and a deep understanding of the connections. The assessment, examination and evaluation of the entire body is naturally part of this. Only in this way can the conclusions be fully comprehensive.
Thanks to my current training in Neuromuscular Based Dentistry in the USA, I am able to offer what is probably the world's finest and most insightful method of dental treatment for horses. In almost 30 years, NBD has carried out outstanding research work in the field of teeth and has gained astonishing insights into teeth in connection with the whole body. Especially in the neuromuscular area. I have not seen comparable holistic results in any other method.
We work with special hand tools to make the treatment as gentle and comfortable as possible for the horse and to make precise adjustments. The treatment is carried out without sedation. With calmness, feeling and the right communication, most horses allow their teeth to be worked on without sedation. If you have any concerns about whether or not your horse is suitable for treatment without sedation, please feel free to send me an email. In consultation with your vet, we will find a solution if necessary.
